Changes in Sweating Due to Autonomic Neuropathy

Diabetics that suffer from the complication autonomic neuropathy can also suffer from increased or decreased sweating as one of the conditions of this diabetic complication. This is caused by sweat glands that do not function normally and this does not allow the body to regulate its temperature properly.

Autonomic neuropathy can also cause excessive sweating at night, which can be uncomfortable for the diabetic with this condition. This condition needs to be managed properly as the diabetic can become dehydrated from the excess moisture leaving the body. The diabetic patient that has the condition of anhidrosis, which is a reduced or lack of sweating will need to treat this condition as it can be life threatening instead of just being uncomfortable.

One of the reasons for this is that the body is unable to cool its self naturally and this can cause problems in the organs and in the brain, along with raising the blood pressure.
