Dealing with gestational diabetes


The remedies for this disorder include eating a healthy and planned diet, doing plenty of exercise, retaining a healthy pregnancy weight, keep on checking the glucose levels, if required taking daily insulin injections. 
Gestational diabetic mothers diet plan:

  • Avoid food stuffs high in sugar content.
  • Try eating complex carbohydrates such as pasta, rice, grains and cereals.
  • Have fiber rich food such as fruits and vegetables.
  • Have a snack before bedtime rich in protein and carbohydrate content

Exercise tips:

  • A doctor should be consulted regarding the right types of exercise to be followed.
  • Work out should be done three to four times in a week each lasting for 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Woman should avoid strenuous work out and should not get overheated.

Maintaining healthy pregnancy weight:

  • A weight gain of 25 to 35 pounds is expected during pregnancy for a woman having desirable weight prior
  • An underweight woman is expected to gain weight up to 28 to 36 pounds.

 Monitoring glucose levels:

Depending upon the severity of the condition doctor may prescribe daily or weekly glucose test. There are methods that can test the glucose level at home. 
Daily insulin injection:

Insulin injections are required if the glucose is not in the normal range even on making dietary changes and doing exercise.
