Diabetes and Blindness

Damage to the retina from diabetes diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of blindness in adults according to research data. Diabetic retinopathy is one of the complications that can occur and in some cases it occurs in diabetics that cannot keep their blood glucose level normal and in other cases it occurs due to other factors like infection, stress and other reasons. This is one of the things that diabetics must manage properly, with frequent eye examinations, with proper diabetic insulin management, as well as blood pressure and cholesterol.

The eye examination when a dilated eye exam can tell the eye specialist many things, like if the person has high blood pressure, because of the blood vessels in the eyes.

The blood vessels can be seen in their natural state and this can help the eye specialist to discover conditions that can be life threatening in some cases.
