Diabetes Chronic Complications

One of the problems with diabetes is chronic complications that some people can suffer from, this can include diseases of the blood vessels, called small vessel disease. This can also involve the kidneys, eyes, and nerves when classified as micro vascular disease.

There is also large vessel disease which is also a complication of diabetes, this can involve the heart and blood vessels and is classified as macro vascular disease. This condition can also accelerate hardening of the arteries, known as atherosclerosis and lead to coronary heart disease. One of the symptoms of this condition is it can cause pain in the lower extremities due to lack of blood supply. Macro vascular disease can cause angina, heart attack and stroke.

These are chronic conditions that need to be closely monitored by the physician and that will need vigilant watch by the person with diabetes and report any changes to their physician, who might prescribe medication that will be taken along with the insulin that must be taken.
