Diabetes Myths

There are many things to understand about diabetes, first there are different types of this disease, there is type I and this includes juvenile diabetes, there is type II, gestational diabetes, and pre-diabetes. Each of these are different and with each there are myths that the person dealing with this disease should know.

    • One of the myths is that a person that is obese will eventually become a type II diabetic, this is untrue as weight is not the only risk factor for this type of diabetes.
    • Eating too much sugar will cause type I diabetes, this is also untrue, however diabetics that have been diagnosed must avoid sugar in their diet.
    • Another one of these myths is that diabetics should only eat foods that are specially made for their condition.

The myth that diabetes is contagious is not true, diabetes cannot be caught from someone no matter what type of diabetes they have been diagnosed with.
