What is a Finger Stick Test Done For?

A finger stick test is done to check the blood sugar level, and it should be done often so that the blood glucose level is able to be kept in the normal range by the diabetic. This is important due to the complications that can affect the person with diabetes when their blood sugar level is not kept regulated. These complications can include heart disease, blindness or nerve damage and can be the cause of amputation.

The finger stick blood test has also changed to be more comfortable to do for the diabetic than in the past, but still must be done often. Foods, beverages, stress and other factors can cause the blood sugar level to change.

Exercises is also something that can cause the blood sugar level to change in the body and this is why it is important even for the child with juvenile diabetes for the blood sugar levels to be checked often.
