What Types of Foods are Good for the Diabetic


There are some foods that are good for the person with diabetes like fresh vegetables; they are a healthy food, with fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Canned vegetables are also good, when the label is checked to ensure the amount of sugar that has been added.

Dairy is something that while healthy, should be used in cautiously, because lactose is a form of sugar. What this means is the diabetic that enjoys eating cheese or drinking milk should used a skimmed or low fat form of dairy products, this will limit the amount of lactose in the diet.

Food items like fatty foods, deep fried foods, alcohol and sugar should be extremely limited in the diabetics diet as these can cause difficulties with the blood sugar levels. Carbohydrates should be checked on the glycemic index to create a balanced meal for the person that has been diagnosed with diabetes whether it is type I or type II diabetes.
