Important things to know about Hypoglycemia and Diabetes


Hypoglycemia is something that is not unusual for people to experience when they have diabetes, this is one of the reasons that the blood glucose needs to be checked regularly. Hypoglycemia occurs when the blood glucose is low.

The symptoms experienced when suffering from hypoglycemia diabetic might feel are:

    • Dizziness
    • Shaking
    • Sweating
    • Headache
    • Changes in behavior such as feeling sad
    • Pale skin color
    • Jerky movements
    • Sensation of face an especially around mouth
    • Possible seizures

Low blood glucose or hypoglycemia left untreated can worsen to the point of fainting in this case from the immediate treatment with an injection of glucose or treatment at hospital emergency room.

To treat hypoglycemia one diabetic the fastest way to raise the blood glucose levels is with some form of sugar. This can be glucose tablets that can be purchased at the pharmacy, a half cup of fruit juice or 5 to 6 pieces of art candy. After 15 to 20 minutes the blood glucose level should be checked to ensure that it is within a safe or normal range.
