Hypoglycemia Unawareness

This is a condition that can occur due to the complications affecting some diabetics; this is when the blood sugar drops to low. The blood sugar can drop below 3.9 millimoles per liter. This can make the body feel shaky, sweat and have a rapid heartbeat.

These symptoms should be a warning sign that the blood sugar is rising too quickly, but the diabetic that has complications like autonomic neuropathy may not realize they are suffering from hypoglycemia. This can create a dangerous situation; because hypoglycemia can be dangerous to the body and if not treated can be fatal.

Diabetics that suffer from the complication autonomic neuropathy can have hypoglycemia unawareness and this means that to be safe from deadly consequences the blood glucose level will need to be tested often and if the blood sugar is low immediate treatment is necessary to correct this condition. In some cases the blood sugar level can be safely raised at home, but when it cannot then medical treatment is imperative.
