How Different Insulin’s Act in the Body


There are insulin’s that are made to act differently in the body, each is made to help a specific type of diabetes and the diabetics needs. The different types of insulin have different ways of releasing the insulin into the body making it easy for the diabetic that has Type I diabetes and problems controlling their insulin level.

The different types are:

  • Rapid Acting: this is insulin that will begin working in the body within 15 minutes from the time of injection and will peak between 30 and 90 minutes. The duration that this insulin works is three to four hours.

  • Short Acting: this is insulin that works in the body between 50 and 60 minutes and will peak in two or three hours in the body. The duration that short acting insulin lasts in the body is between three and six hours.

  • Intermediate Acting: This is insulin that takes about 90 minutes to 6 hours to begin working in the body and peaks between 4 and 14 hours. The duration that this insulin lasts in the body is up to 24 hours.

  • Long Acting: Long acting insulin begins working between 6 and 14 hours in the body and will remain effective for between 24 and 36 hours.
