The Loss of a Limb Due to Diabetic Neuropathy

Diabetics that suffer from complications due to diabetic neuropathy, can have devastating effects as they can lose a limb due to nerve damage. It is possible for a diabetic to lose a limb because the nerve damage can cause lack of feeling in the feet and cuts or sores can be unnoticed due to lack of feeling and become infected. This can cause an ulcerated condition on the skin, which is a breakdown of the soft tissue.

The infection can spread to the bone causing tissue death, which is known as gangrene, when left untreated and even when treated it can lead to amputation.

This can be an amputation of a toe, foot or lower leg when the diabetic suffers from diabetic neuropathy complications that cause nerve damage. This type of amputation can be a life threatening condition for the diabetic during the infection stage as a diabetic does not have the same healing power in the body.
