The New Driver with Diabetes

The new driver, in most cases is a teen and for any driver with diabetes there are some extra considerations that need to be used. These are ones that are specific to the diabetic, like checking the blood glucose level every time they intend to drive, prior to getting behind the wheel. There should be no exceptions to this rule; it can keep the teen driver safe while behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. If the blood glucose level is not in the normal range wait for approximately 15 minutes and test it again, if it still is not, then do not drive.

There should be emergency supplies in the vehicle; this should include non-perishable snacks and fast acting sugars, along with other diabetic supplies. Driving is a responsibility, but it is also a responsibility to ensure if the blood glucose level changes or there are symptoms of low blood sugar the diabetic driver has the needed diabetic supplies in the vehicle.
