Pituitary Diabetes Insipidus

Pituitary diabetes indspidus is caused by a lack of the hormone vasopressin; this is a hormone that works in the kidneys to reduce the amount of urine content, by increasing the concentration of urine. This type of diabetes can also be referred to as central or neurogenic diabetes insipidus and can affect women that are pregnant if the pituitary is damaged or if the placenta destroys the hormone too quickly.
This is a disease that can be caused by underlying diseases such as infections, tumors, inherited defects and head injuries. This is because this type of diabetes insipidus is usually caused by the destruction of the back of the pituitary gland where vasopressin is produced in the body.

In many cases this type of diabetes even after an MRI cannot be a certain diagnoses as no cause can be found and other times it might be diagnosed with abnormalities in the pituitary hormones, in which case hormone treatment is also necessary. This type of insipidus diabetes is not curable, but it is treatable.
