Radiculoplexus Neuropathy

Radiculoplexus neuropathy is one of the diabetic nuropatyhy class of symptoms that can cause difficulties in the nerves near the hips and shoulders. This diabetic condition can also be referred to as femoral neuropathy or proximal neuropathy.

This is a condition that is common with people that have type II diabetes and it occurs more often in older adults. The symptoms usually occur on one side of the body and affect the arms and legs,  and it can also affect the abdomen. The symptoms of radiculoplexus neuropathy can be:

  • sudden or severe pain can occur in the hip by or buttock
  • difficulty in rising from a sitting position
  • abdominal swelling when the abdomen is affected by this condition
  • weak and atrophied muscles in the thigh
  • loss of appetite and unintentional weight loss

While not all of these symptoms might be present, any of them should be reported to the physician as this is a diabetes complication that needs immediate treatment.
