The High Risk Factors of Diabetic Ketacidosis

Diabetic Ketacidosis can have high risk factors for certain people even thought any diabetic is susceptible to this condition. Any diabetic with Type I or II diabetes, and women with gestational diabetes can have diabetic ketacidosis.

In some cases this condition is the first sign of diabetes that a person will have prior to being diagnosed with diabetes. People that are in the highest risk category for this condition where the body is not getting enough insulin and there is toxic acid being produced are people that are younger than 19 years of age and that have Type I diabetes. The toxic acid helps to raise the blood sugar level and breaks down fat and protein in the body.

This is a condition that even when young people have diabetic ketacidosis must be treated immediately, because left untreated it can cause loss of consciousness and can even be fatal.
