Common Sense Tips for the Diabetic

There are some common sense tips for the diabetic, things that make sense for anyone, but can save the diabetic from having complications along with their disease. One of these is to check the shoes for pebbles or other small objects that could hurt the foot. This is because in some cases diabetics have problems with nerves from complications of their disease and one of the nerves that can be damaged affect the feeling in the foot.

Even when there are no complications with diabetes it is still important to check the shoes for debris prior to putting them on, because the risk of infection is heightened and needs to be avoided so that there are no other complications such as diabetes neuropathy.

Another tip for the diabetic that is common sense is to avoid trimming the nails on the toes or fingers short enough to make them sore or bleed. This can also be a risk for infection.

Take insulin at the same time daily, this allows the body to always have some insulin in it 24 hours a day to work properly, including the kidneys and other organs.

Always alert the physician to medications that are being taken for other conditions to ensure that there will be no interaction with the insulin or with the sugar diabetes its self.
