The seriousness of diabetic neuropathy is that the complications can have devastating results like the loss of a limb after nerve damage has been done. Being socially isolated can also affect the diabetic that suffers from these complications due to the pain and disability that can be caused by the symptoms. The nerve damage in older adults can also inhibit them from having independence, which can also lead to depression.
