The Seriousness of Diabetic Neuropathy


The seriousness of diabetic neuropathy is that the complications can have devastating results like the loss of a limb after nerve damage has been done. Charcot joint can also  be a problem, urinary tract infections, hypoglycemia, low blood pressure, digestive problems, sexual dysfunction, and an increase or decrease in sweating.

Being socially isolated can also affect the diabetic that suffers from these complications due to the pain and disability that can be caused by the symptoms. The nerve damage in older adults can also inhibit them from having independence, which can also lead to depression.

The diabetic that is most at risk for this type of complications are those that do not follow their treatment plan and cannot keep their blood glucose level under control. This is a person that has had diabetes many years and has not aggressively treated the condition.
