Sexual Dysfunction from Autonomic Neuropathy

The diabetes complication autonomic neuropathy can lead to sexual dysfunction, this is due to the damage that can be done to the sexual organs from this diabetic complication. What occurs is that the damage to the nerves can cause erectile dysfunction in males and both lubrication difficulties and arousal problems in women.

Due to the reason behind the sexual dysfunction, there is usually no change in this condition since it has been caused by nerve damage because of autonomic neuropathy. This means the nerve damage cannot correct its self over time.

Depending on other medical conditions the diabetic patient has that also has nerve damage to the sexual organs might be able to have medications prescribed by the physician to help correct this condition. However if there are other medical conditions, such as high blood pressure or heart disease this type of medication might not be advisable.
