What is Thrush?

Thrush is a oral disease that is a fungal infection of the mouth and tongue, which is usually caused by taking antibiotics to often and is one of the complications a person with diabetes can suffer from. The reason that diabetics are more at risk for this complication is when their blood sugar level is out of control.

The diabetic with their blood sugar level out of control are open to this fungus infection due to the high levels of sugar that are in the saliva. The immune system in the person with diabetics that has taken courses of antibiotics is not strong enough to fight off this fungus infection.

Thrush is an oral yeast infection that can occur at any age, leaving white patches in the mouth and on the tongue, but it is more common in older adults and especially older adults with diabetes.
