Treatment after being Diagnosed with Diabetic Hyperosmolar Syndrome

The treatment after being diagnosed with diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome is critical for the health and survival of the type II diabetic or undiagnosed diabetic. This treatment is an emergency situation, however it can correct this diabetic condition within hours successfully.

In most cases the treatment will begin with intravenous fluids to restore water to the tissues that has been depleted by excess urine output. There will also be a blood test done to see if the diabetic is in need of testing sodium and chlorine supplements to help the cells begin functioning correctly.

Any underlying infections will be also treated as this is what could have caused the diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome to begin. When enough has been replaced in the body the diabetic also be given short acting insulin to help the tissues absorb glucose again. While this treatment is simple in nature diabetics health and life depends on getting this treatment as quickly as possible to avoid complications with the kidneys, and blockages in the blood vessels that can lead to heart attack or stroke.
