The treatment for diabetes includes medication known as insulin, and while this is a treatment there are certain types of diabetes that does not require medication.
Type I diabetics do require medication, while type II diabetics can in some cases control their blood sugar by the proper diet. Diet is also the most important part of maintaining good blood glucose levels with type I diabetes. With either type of diabetes foods are limited to certain types, because the body does not produce natural insulin that keeps the body and organs working properly.
Type I diabetes is managed with insulin that is injected, and there is also a newer type of insulin treatment that can work for some type I diabetics. This is a pancreatic islet transplantation, it is still experimental to a degree and what it does is to transplant insulin producing bata cells from a donor into the pancreas of the diabetic. |
