Urinary Tract Infections and Incontinence Due to Diabetic Neuropathy

One of the diabetic complications can be diabetic neuropathy and this can have different symptoms as well as conditions that can affect the diabetic. Urinary tract infections and incontinence is one of these conditions that can affect the diabetic due to complications of diabetic neuropathy.

When this condition occurs it is often because there has been damage done to the nerves that control the bladder and this can prevent it from completely emptying. This can allow bacteria to multiply in the bladder and kidneys creating an environment for urinary tract infections and will need to be treated with antibacterial medications to clear the infection from the body.

Another thing that this nerve damage can do is affect the ability to feel when it is time to urinate or the ability to control the muscles that release the urine causing incontinence.  This can cause isolation for some diabetics as it can be an embarrassing situation when the nerve damage causes incontinence.
