How to Take Glucophage XR
Although there is no such fixed dosage regime for the treatment and management of hyperglycemia in patients suffering from type 2 diabetes, Glucophage XR, when taken according to the specified dosage helps in improving the overall health and improves the blood sugar levels as well. The dosage of Glucophage XR is actually individualized, and is based on both the tolerance level and the effectiveness of the medication. However, it is important to maintain the suggested dosage. The maximum dosage of Glucophage XR as recommended to a patient should not exceeded 2550 mg in adults and not more than 2000 mg in case of pediatric patients or children aged between 10 to 16 years. Clinically, the correct dosage for an average adult is below 1500 mg per day. However, a much lower dose than this can be suggested for the initial days to avoid any gastrointestinal symptoms. The normal starting dose of Glucophage XR is 500 mg per day, to be taken twice daily, or 850 mg to be taken once in a day. The dosage can be increased slowly by 500 mg per week or 850 mg per week, to be done in every 2 weeks. The maximum dosage, however, remains 2000 mg per day, to be taken in divided doses. This cannot be increased. |
