How to Take Glyburide
There isn’t any fixed dosage of Glyburide. It is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and is used in conjunction with proper diet and regular exercise for improving the condition. The dosage of the medication is determined by a healthcare provider. The initial dosage of Glyburide is 2.5 mg to 5 mg, to be taken daily; it is usually administered with the breakfast or basically the first meal of the day. Patients who have been sensitive to hypoglycemic drugs are recommended a lower dosage of the medication; they can start at 1.25 mg per day. In case of a failure to follow the required dosage of the medication, chances are that the dosage might precipitate hypoglycemia. Patients switching over to Glyburide from an oral antidiabetic regime are given a daily dosage of 2.5 mg to 5 mg as single dose. For patients taking doses of insulin the dosage of Glyburide varies slightly. In case of a patient taking 20 units of insulin daily, the dosage of Glyburide will remain 2.5 mg to 5 mg to be taken as a daily dose. Similarly, when the dosage is between 20 units to 40 units, the patient will be given 5 mg Glyburide tablets as single dose.
